In 2013, Vermont became the fourth state to legalize medical aid in dying for people with terminal illnesses. Patient Choices Vermont (PCV) was the lead advocacy organization behind the adoption of Vermont’s Patient Choice at End of Life Law (Act 39). In this session, we invite you to discuss end-of-life decision-making and share your thoughts and stories. Susan has personal experience with Act 39 and will explain the ways that medical aid in dying enabled her loved one to be fully present while choosing the timing of their last days. We will discuss the history of medical aid in dying, the requirements of Vermont’s Act 39, and the role of advance directives, hospice and palliative care.This discussion is about life and connections. It is also about autonomy, navigating challenging decisions and about our own civil liberties. Please join us!
