Timothy W. Caldwell

Counselor at Law

Timothy W. Caldwell, Counselor at Law, has over 30 years of experience in the Upper Valley and since 1997, has concentrated his practice on estate planning and settlement. He graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College and earned his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center. He served as chair and member of the Lyme School Board, the New England Nordic Ski Association, the Upper Valley Planned Giving Council, and was instrumental in establishing LeaveALegacy®NH/VT. Tim is also a Respecting Choices® Advance Care Planning Certified Facilitator. Currently he serves as a Regional Advisor to the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and is a coach for the Ford Sayre Cross Country Ski Team.

Prior to practicing law, Tim was a competitive cross country skier. He competed in four Olympics and three World Championships. He and his wife, Margaret, a recently retired Social Studies teacher at Hanover High School and now involved in multiple community organizations have lived in Lyme Center since 1989. Margaret and Tim have three children: Lucy, lives in London and is a Manager for Deloitte Digital, Heidi is the Director of Running Programs at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center and Patrick works for Redeux Energy in Denver developing utility scale solar and battery projects. The family enjoys a variety of activities including skiing, hiking, swimming and spending time with friends and relatives.

James L. Thaxton

Counselor at Law

Jamie Thaxton is an Associate Attorney focusing on long-term care, Medicaid and estate planning, real estate transactions, and assisting clients with estate settlement. He earned both his Juris Doctor and Master’s degree in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School.

Jamie is admitted to the Bar in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Connecticut. He is a member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys and the Grafton County Bar Association and is also a Respecting Choices® Advance Care Planning Certified Facilitator.

Outside the office, Jamie enjoys traveling, spending time with his family, and making maple syrup.

Timothy Sheble-Hall

Counselor at Law

Tim Sheble-Hall is an Associate Attorney at the firm, focusing on estate planning, titling, and estate settlement. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Vermont and his Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law.

Tim is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont, and serves as a notary public in all three states. He is an active member of the Vermont and New Hampshire Bar Associations, as well as the Grafton County Bar Association. In addition, Tim is a member of the Valley News Reader Advisory Board and the Upper Valley Business Alliance.

Originally from a sheep farm in eastern Massachusetts, Tim enjoys spending his free time hiking, playing sports, reading a good book, and sharing great food with family and friends.

Tim Sheble-Hall joined Caldwell Law in March 2024.

Renée A. Harvey

Counselor at Law

Renée A. Harvey, Counselor at Law, has worked in the New York, Vermont and New Hampshire legal systems since 1990. She is a graduate of Vermont Law School and is licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts of Vermont and New Hampshire. Her practice focuses on estate planning and settlement, assisting clients with making informed decisions. She is a Respecting Choices® Advance Care Planning Certified Facilitator and she is a certified mediator. Renée also serves on the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Dispute Resolution Committee, the Patient Choices Vermont Advisory Committee, and is a lecturer at various local institutions. She is the managing partner of Caldwell Law.

Raphael A. Addante

Counselor at Law

Raphael Addante is an Associate Attorney focusing on estate planning, estate settlement, trusts, and probate matters. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Boston University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law.

Raphael was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 2025 and is in the process of admission to the New Hampshire Bar. He is a member of the Vermont Bar Association and is committed to providing thoughtful, accessible legal guidance to clients. During law school, Raphael volunteered his time preparing basic wills and powers of attorney for low-income and underserved individuals.

Outside of his legal work, Raphael enjoys hiking, running, gardening, rowing, and practicing origami. Fun fact — he’s one of six siblings, all sharing the initials R.A.A.

Sonja H. Bailey

Paralegal & Assistant

Sonja Bailey is a Paralegal and Assistant to Attorney Tim Caldwell. She studied Law at Westminster University in London and Fine Art at the College of Marin in California, bringing both analytical skill and creativity to her work.

Outside of the office, Sonja enjoys cooking and entertaining, hiking with her dogs, and dancing with her children at music festivals. A former goat farmer and artisan cheesemaker, she now channels her love of community and connection as a member of the Development Committee for High Horses Therapeutic Riding Program and as a volunteer for her local community orchard.

Jackie Hatt

Office Coordinator and Senior Paralegal

Jackie Hatt is the Office Coordinator and Senior Paralegal at the firm, supporting the attorneys and staff on all client matters with a focus on estate planning and document drafting. She earned her Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies from Champlain College.

Jackie enjoys spending time with family and friends—especially her nieces and nephews—baking sweet treats, shopping, and cozying up by the fire with a Hallmark movie. She shares her home with her husband and two beloved cats.

Sharon Matte

Settlement Coordinator

Sharon Matte is the Settlement Coordinator, assisting clients with the settlement of probate and trust estates. She earned her education in Business and Accounting from Danville High School in Vermont and brings 36 years of experience working in the New Hampshire courts.

Sharon enjoys cooking, photography, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends. She loves traveling—especially to Georgia to visit her daughter and her four-footed companions. The youngest of nine siblings, Sharon values family connections both near and far.

Pamela Lain

Trustee Services Coordinator

Pamela serves as our Trustee Services Coordinator and brings more than 20 years of experience in estate planning, probate, and trust settlement. Pam studied accounting at Benjamin Franklin University (now part of George Washington University) and Northern Virginia Community College, and completed secretarial science training at the Washington DC School for Secretaries. She has also completed NHBA CLE training in probate and trust administration.

In her free time, Pam enjoys home and yard projects, walking, kayaking, beachcombing, and British needlepoint.

Rebekah Hanzas

Legal Assistant & Client Intake Specialist

Rebekah is a Legal Assistant and Client Intake Specialist who serves as one of the first points of contact for the firm. She answers calls, greets clients, and helps guide them through the first steps of the estate planning process with warmth and clarity.

Rebekah earned her degree in Media Studies and Journalism from the University of San Francisco. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, hiking, and skiing, and at home she’s kept company by her tuxedo cat.

Stephanie Barnard

Legal Assistant

Stephanie is a Legal Assistant who supports the firm with organization, client service, and daily legal operations. She was born and raised in the Upper Valley, where she also raised her two children and remains deeply connected to the community.

Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, baking, hiking, crafting, and working on puzzles. She loves exploring new places with her husband, usually with their two dogs by their side.
