A Presentation on Long-Term Care Planning by Renée Harvey and Jamie Thaxton

Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Thompson Senior Center at 99 Senior Lane in Woodstock, VT.

Caldwell Law attorneys Renée and Jamie will lead a discussion of long-term care planning. Everyone needs to consider long-term care planning—proper planning can make a big difference. Unfortunately, many people wait until it is too late. How you approach your planning may depend on your income and resources. The session will cover the important of planning for incapacity, some of the resource-neutral basics, and then explore considerations when planning to qualify for needs-based benefits through Medicaid.

What the Future Holds: A Long-Term Care Discussion Presented by Renée Harvey and Jamie Thaxton

Monday, October 15, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Aging Resource Center at 46 Centerra Parkway in Lebanon, NH (or at the ARC Annex, 10 Campbell St, Lebanon NH; check the ARC website for location)

The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Aging Resource Center (ARC) offers wellness workshops, lectures, support groups, a library, and resources and consultations for Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and dementia, among many other resources for aging. Our very own Renée Harvey and Jamie Thaxton will lead a discussion as part of the ARC's Fall 2018 Programming:

Join elder law attorneys Renée Harvey and Jamie Thaxton of Caldwell Law for a discussion of long-term care planning considerations. It is imperative that seniors, those approaching retirement age, and the families of those needing long-term care take advantage of the planning opportunities that exist today. We will discuss estate planning that everyone should have and options for paying for your long-term care, including Medicaid. While this program is not intended as a substitute for a personal appointment with an attorney, you will have the opportunity to hear about typical issues and problems that can be addressed by adequate planning. This discussion is also very helpful for those who will be serving as agents or caregivers to loved ones.

Tri-State Learning Collaborative on Aging - Spring Summit: Embracing the Options

If you work or volunteer in any organization that deals with the aged, are curious about what an aging population means for your community, or are simply interested in learning how to age gracefully yourself, consider attending the TSLCA's Spring Summit on "Embracing the Options: Supporting End-of-Life Care in your Community". This event will engage you in conversations about aging in place here in northern New England, end-of-life health care resources, and strategies to make life good right to the very end.

Not only is Caldwell Law helping to sponsor the summit, but our very own Tim Caldwell will be a panelist during a discussion on "How to talk about Death and Dying" during the event.

The summit will take place on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Fireside Inn in Lebanon, NH. For more details and to register, click here.

Vermont Sports Hall of Fame Induction

We are proud to announce that Tim Caldwell will be inducted into the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame on April 21, 2018!

Prior to becoming an estate planning lawyer, Tim Caldwell was the first American to compete in four Winter Olympics and was a U.S. national Nordic champion several times at every event. The son of VSHOF inductee and legendary Nordic coach John Caldwell, Tim first raced at the Putney School in high school during a time when the Brattleboro area produced many of the top U.S. Nordic racers including fellow Olympians Bill Koch, Martha Rockwell, Bob Gray and Stan Dunklee. He skied in his first Olympics at Sapparo in 1972 at the age of 17 in the 15K and the 4 X 10 K relay. Four years later at Innsbruck he raced in the 15K, 30K and 50K as well as the relay event. He raced at home in 1980 at Lake Placid in the 15K and relay, and competed in the same two events at age 30 in Sarajevo in 1984. In 1973 he finished second in the prestigious Holmenkollen Junior 15K and captured the Finlandia Trophy as the outstanding U.S. Nordic skier.

Ticket information for the 2018 induction and dinner will be available soon on the VSHOF web site at www.vermontsportshall.com. Proceeds from the event go to Prevent Child Abuse Vermont, the designated charity of the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame. The first five dinners and events have raised close to $15,000 to PCAV.
